I DID IT!
I CRACKED THE CODE!
I now have a sure fire strategy to catching legends! It not only works, it worked beyond my wildest dreams!
In Platinum, I caught Dialga, and spent only three pokeballs. I turned around, and next caught Palkia, and spent only ONE pokeball!
I CAUGHT A LEGEND WITH ONLY ONE POKEBALL! And it *wasn't* a Master Ball!
Never... never doubt the power of a repeat ball, or a nest ball.
The repeat ball works really well for pokemon you already have. The Nest Ball works far better at catching pokemon at a lower level than I ever suspected.
With the Battle Frontier finally unlocked, I ported over my favorite competition pokemon. All are lvl 100. This also happens to be my preferred team for catching legends, as my lvl 100 Butterfree knows sleep powder, usually gets in the first shot and puts them to sleep. She takes minimal damage when they wake up, so I can keep the process up for a long time, as I widdle down their HP with weaker level pokemon (So I don't faint them with the butterfree, or another lvl100).
My Dialga, from Diamond was also a port over, to fight the Elite Four.
So, I decided with it already in my dex, and my lvl 100 butterfree, I'd test out the repeat ball, and nest balls. Figured it couldn't hurt. What would happen? I'd be out a couple of pokeballs. And not even that, if I failed and had to restart (I always save just before trying to catch a legend, so I don't accidentally faint it.).
As my routine, when I encounter Dialga, I immidiately lob a Quickball at him. No effect, as predicted. So, I take his attack, and put him to sleep. Not expecting anything to happen, I lob a repeat ball. It wobbles once. It wobbles twice...! It wobbles THREE TIMES! And then it breaks free. It held it at full HP for three wobbles. So I knock it's HP down into the red, and throw another repeat. CAUGHT. Third try.
I go to Palkia. Put it to sleep, knock it into the red, and to see what would happen, I lob the nest ball at him. CAUGHT!
I am *very* eager to try this on Heatran. I believe it's the last non-runner I have left to catch.
